Honoring the Founders...

The Black Student Fund began its 36th year by celebrating the vision, courage and foresight of its founders, Benjamin Lee Bird, Lydia Katzenbach, Alison MacLean, Mark Schlefer, Burma Whitted, the late Louis Martin and the late Walter Ridder. In April 2000, the Fund honored them at a luncheon held at Washington's Cosmos Club. The presence and participation of these extraordinary people was indeed a historic event.
Honorees at the Founders Luncheon included: Seated L.-R., Mrs. Sturgis Warner, Mrs. Louis Martine, Alison MacLean, Burma Whitted. Standing, Benjamin Lee Bird, Mrs. Walter Ridder, and Mark Schlefer. Founding Trustee Lydia Katzenbach was unable to attend.
