Black Student Fund Application Checklist
Black Student Fund (BSF) Scholars apply each year to gain access to BSF programs and scholarships. Scholars must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement. Parents/Guardians agree to work in partnership with BSF as advocates for the Scholar. Completed applications mailed to: BSF Scholar Application 3636 16th Street, NW, Fourth Floor, Washington, DC 20010 or received via email application@blackstudentfund.org October 1, 2011 through February 1, 2012 will receive first consideration.
There are 40 independent schools in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area that have applied for and met the criteria for BSF Member School status. BSF encourages you to select and apply to schools that will meet your child’s needs. Please adhere to each school’s admission and financial aid application deadlines.
Apply for BSF Scholarship Financial Assistance
BSF uses a report from School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) to make scholarship award decisions. BSF school code is 1714. Parents/Guardians should complete the online Parent Financial Statement (PFS) www.nais.org/financial/sss. (A credit/debit card is required.) It is important to review your PFS for accuracy as errors may result in delayed processing.
Applicants must submit to SSS copies of the 1040 and W2 forms for 2011 for each parent/guardian. Documents can be uploaded via the online application or forwarded to SSS, PO Box 449, Randolph, MA 02368-0449.
Note: SSS prepares an analysis of your family’s recommended contribution. This must be received at BSF by February 1, 2012.
Additionally, applicants must apply for financial assistance at selected Member Schools and must receive a financial award for 2012-2013 academic year. This is a requirement for each BSF Scholar applicant.
Apply to BSF
Once your child receives acceptance to a BSF Member School and receives a financial aid award, parents/guardians must then select one school to attend. If your family would like assistance in determining a final choice, BSF is available for consultation. Applicants must provide the following to BSF in order to complete the application process:
Age 3 to Age 5 WPPSI-III (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence)
Age 6 to Age 16 WISC- IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children)
Grade 5 thru Grade 12 SSAT (BSF Code: 0150)
Grade 5 thru Grade 12 ISEE (BSF Code: 090321)
*Testing results should be forwarded directly to BSF via email or regular mail from the test center. Decision Procedures
Once BSF receives all required documentation from SSS and parents/guardians, the BSF Scholarship Committee will review each completed file. First round decisions will be mailed Thursday, April 12, 2012.
