Parent Guide for Applying to Independent Schools

Scholars must apply annually to gain access to BSF programs. Scholars must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement. Parents/Guardians agree to work in partnership with BSF as advocates for their Scholars. The BSF Scholar Admissions Committee will review each completed file and families will be notified of Scholar Application decisions in late April/early May 2013.

BSF Scholar applications are accepted November 1, 2012 through February 1, 2013.

Parent/Guardians must submit the following to BSF:

Transcripts/Report cards
Admissions Testing results:*
- For students Ages 3 - 5 WPPSI-III (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence)
- For students Ages 6 - 16 WISC- IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children)
- For students Grades 5 - 12 SSAT (BSF Code: 0150) or ISEE (BSF Code: 090321)

*Testing results should be forwarded directly to BSF via email or regular mail from the test center.

Financial Aid information (Review school websites for details on financial aid process and requirements.)

Forty-four (44) independent schools in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area are current BSF Member Schools. BSF encourages you to select and apply to schools that will meet your child/ren’s needs. Please adhere to each school’s admission and financial aid application requirements and deadlines.

For tuition assistance, most schools utilize information from third-party services to make grant award decisions. Please review school websites to determine which service(s) are required.

Some service options: SSS, FAST, TADS

Complete financial aid application prior to February 1, 2013 for BSF consideration.

After your child is offered acceptance to and receives a financial aid award from a BSF Member School, and selects one school to attend, please submit the following materials by April 15, 2013:

Copy of school acceptance letter from school of your final decision
Copy of financial aid award letter from school of your final decision

BSF Scholar Application Checklist: 2013 – 2014 Academic Year

□ Apply to BSF (November 1, 2012 to February 1, 2013)

□ submit BSF Scholar Application

□ submit Transcripts/Report cards

□ arrange for Admissions Testing Results to be sent to BSF

□ submit financial aid information

* see school websites for specific instructions on application and required documentation

* complete prior to February 1, 2013 for consideration

* note: if using SSS, include BSF code 1714 on PFS form

□ Apply to select BSF Member Schools

(after receipt of acceptance and financial aid award from BSF Member School(s))
