BSF Financial Aid Procedures

  1. You must apply to BOTH a Member School and the Black Student Fund for financial aid. The Black Student Fund works in conjunction with our schools to offer supplemental grants. We cannot make a grant if the school does not offer one itself.
  2. Inform the Member School admissions director when you apply that you are in need of financial assistance:
  3. ·Ask for general guidelines on the amount of aid available for an individual student.
    · Request financial aid application forms and procedures.
    · Schools have many different types of aid programs that include full or partial grants and tuition loans.
Be sure to apply to the schools that have grants suitable to your needs!

  4. Follow the Member School’s procedures when applying for aid. · At the same time, call (202) 387-1414 or contact the Black Student Fund for additional information and instructions.
  5. The Black Student Fund uses the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) as a guideline when making financial aid decisions.

If the schools to which you are applying use the SSS Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) Form:

  • Obtain the PFS form, along with an application form, from the admissions office or complete the PFS form online here.
  • Fill out only one form, even if you are applying for more than one child or to more than one school.
  • After completing the form, put the name and code number for each school AND the Black Student Fund name and code number (1714) in Section 7A of the application form.

If the school does not use the SSS PFS Form:

  • Call the school to request the Financial Aid form they use. Fill it out and return it to them.
  • Call or contact the Black Student Fund to get a copy of the SSS Parents’ Financial Statement Form or complete the PFS form online here.
  1. The Black Student Fund and most schools will require copies of your Federal Income Tax form (1040), and your W-2 form.
  2. FINANCIAL AID DEADLINE - The Black Student Fund’s deadline is the same as the school’s financial aid deadline. To be considered for financial aid, you must adhere to these deadlines.

Acceptance Into A BSF Member School Does Not Guarantee That A Grant Will Be Awarded
By Either The School Or The Fund.
