School Application Procedures
APPLY EARLY BEFORE FEBRUARY 1
Many schools do not accept applications after this date.
- Call or contact the schools admissions offices to request brochures and application
forms.
[Questions to Ask Yourself] [Questions to Ask Schools]
- Call or contact the BSF to request a school referral or to discuss your selection before
applying. We believe that decisions as to the suitability of a school for a particular
student should be a family one, made with careful thought.
- Select at least three BSF Member Schools
that seem most appropriate for your child.
- TESTING Most schools require some tests as part of their
admissions procedure. Check with the schools in which you are interested for their
requirements. The most widely used tests are the Secondary
School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent
School Entrance Examination (ISEE). Be sure to enter the BSF Code Number 0150
when completing the SSAT, or 090321 when completing the ISEE.
- Follow directions from the schools carefully application procedures vary. It is
often helpful to write down whom you spoke to and when.
- Most schools have testing and application fees. If you have any questions about these
fees, call (202) 387-1414 or contact the BSF.
Remember, independent schools receive large numbers of applications for a limited
number of openings. Some applicants are not accepted because the schools simply do not
have space or students do not meet the admissions criteria.
