Directions for Secondary School
Admissions Test (SSAT)

General Information
The SSAT should be taken by students in the 6th grade or above who want to apply to
independent schools. Many schools require the test as part of the admissions
procedure. If you do not know the schools to which you are going to apply you should take
the test. If you do know, ask them if this test is necessary.
Plan to take the test as soon as possible.
Test dates can be found on our SSAT Test Dates
page. Regular registration for the SSAT closes three weeks before the test date. All mail
registrations must be postmarked and fax/Internet registration received by that date. Late
registration closes two weeks before the test date and requires an addition fee. Walk-in
registration requires an additional fee.

TEST DAY
Be sure to...
- Get a good night's rest.
- Arrive 30 minutes before the test is scheduled to begin.
- Take your registration ticket - sent to you by SSAT.
- Take 3 or 4 sharpened #2 lead pencils.
- When filling out test forms, put the Black Student Fund #1714 in the column where
they request names of schools where test scores are to be sent, as well as the
numbers of those schools you want to receive the scores.
IMPORTANT! You must put # 0150 in the space or we will not get your
test scores.
Remember to follow all directions carefully. Don't get upset if there are questions you
cannot answer or if you do not complete the test. No one gets everything right.
