DMV - ALL Girls School - A Local Treasure

July 22, 2026

All-girls' schools offer gender tailored educational environments and the DMV has strong and diverse collection of all girls schools. Research suggests that girls in single-sex environments are more likely to have leadership opportunities, more likely to advance in STEM fields, more likely to participate in class discussions, and achieve higher standardized test scores. Beyond academics and leadership, all-girls' institutions cultivate strong mentorship cultures and lifelong peernetworks. The unique sense of sisterhood forms a supportive community wherestudents support rather than compete with one another. Teachers in theseschools specialize in female development, tailoring their instructionalmethodologies to align with how young women learn and communicate best.

The Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) metro area features numerous all-girls options, ranging from historic private institutions to specialized public charter options. These schools serve varying age groups and no all girl school exists, which has all grades, K-12. Several are associated with the Archdiocese ofWashington Schools.
